Summer Camp

We had some great students during our student summer camp. We truly had them all day as the students spent the mornings in an engineering camp. It was our responsibility to develop an interesting camp to keep students engaged and involved for a week. One of the challenges was to take away what we learned in the teacher integration camp and reduce it by 85% to meet the time constraints we had for the camp, create some excitement to transition into the school year while not making too stressful. These students, as well as their parents, were truly supportive, in our effort to make this camp successful. I was concerned the students would not attend as I stated earlier, the participants had an eight hour day and spend an additional three hours in a camp that were not required to attend. The plan was simple. Introduce the students to what we identified in our camp which would most likely engage the students and build interest. Students were tasked with building an app they wanted to see. One group created a teacher evaluation app for students, while another group created a lunch date app to allow students to meet to have lunch together. It is amazing to see when you give students an opportunity to develop their own thoughts and ideas, what they can do. Never doubt what a student can create when they are given the tools for success. The pictures above shows the groups collaborating and presenting their idea to their camp mates.
