Authentic Learning and Outcomes reflection

Time is fleeting and I think to a time when students had nothing but time in class. These are the thoughts I had as I began to build a lesson plan for students to learn the basics of using the iPad in class. Life has a unique way to show we must take advantage of every moment because we will not get it back. So I take this moment to reflect on my outlook in teaching of how to build a storyline when creating a movie on the IPad.

When students are exposed to a new concept, there is a moment of empowerment that has to transition from the teacher to the student. This transference of knowledge can be a twisting road for students who might be novice for electronics and Apple products. My attempt is always to reach back to experiences that have already experienced to transition to something new.

We all have a story to tell and the platform in which we deliver to an audience can give both the student and those who will share in the experience can slightly different but both can be entertaining. The exercise starts with students developing a story line for their idea (storyboard) as way to build a story. Students can work together creating a template for their thoughts. I allow the students to access information now only for myself; but others as well. When students talk, it gives them an opportunity to develop ideas from conversation which to build off of.

I believe it is important to give students a beginning whether that’s showing different techniques to create a movie or even having a discussion of what is needed to provide that spark in the thought process. I have the pleasure to show one of the many things that I am excited about with creating movies and I let that passion show. Students want more than just a lecture or an assignment, so I added this as apart of their assignments to develop their own ideas.
